Easier To Bury a Tradition Than a Child

North Dakota Farm Bureau hopes theme and cash award in contest helps people get serious about farm safety.

The North Dakota Farm Bureau is hoping the shock value of its National Farm Safety and Health Week theme pulls farmers up short.

"It's easier to bury a tradition than a child - keep kids away from tractors" is the theme.

And to help drive home the message, NDFB will award $500 grants to four North Dakota Farm Bureau members who submit the best safety plans to the organization.

"This grant opportunity will help members who may want to add a fence for a play yard or buy personal protective equipment for reduction of noise or equestrian helmets or fire extinguishers or smoke detectors. The ideas are endless," Gail Scherweit, NDFB safety specialist.

Apply for a chance at the grant by completing the application at forms.ndfb.org/safetygrant.html, print it out and have it postmarked by Oct 5.

The grants will be awarded Oct 10. Articles on the winners and how they have implemented their safety grants will be featured on the NDFB Web site during Agriculture Safety Awareness week in March 2008.

For more information, contact Scherweit at 701-298-2219 or [email protected].
