Crash Course on Corn Harvesting, Drying, Marketing

NDSU to host events at Parshall, Minot and Underwood.

The NDSU Extension Service will host three corn harvest/marketing clinics Sept. 25-27

Ken Hellevang, NDSU Extension Service agricultural engineer, will discuss all aspects of corn drying from natural air to heat drying.

Kent McKay, NDSU Extension Service agronomist at the North Central Research Extension Center in Minot, will discuss estimating corn yields and corn production research, and review the growing season as it relates to growing degree-day accumulation.

Tom Streifel, BlueFlint Ethanol commodity risk manager, will discuss the 2007-08 corn market and its impacts on the ethanol industry.

Where and when:

Tuesday, Sept. 25 – 3:30 p.m. The meeting location is on state Highway 23, a 1/2 mile east of the junction of state Highway 37 and state Highway 23 north of Parshall. A tour of the corn research plots and corn hybrids will follow the program, if weather permits. A sponsored meal and refreshments will conclude the program.
Wednesday, Sept 26 – 10 a.m. at the NCREC a mile south of Minot on U.S. Highway 83.
Thursday, Sept. 27 – 3:30 p.m. at the Underwood City Hall. If weather permits, a tour of the corn research plots and corn hybrids will follow the program. A sponsored meal and refreshments will be held immediately after.
