SPUD POWER: A baked potato has nutrients essential for top athletic performance, according to a new Potatoes USA promotion.

Potato promotion packs a punch

My view: A new video for potatoes has spud growers cheering.

Do you cheer and clap when you see a video advertisement for a commodity you produce?

Potato growers did when they saw Potatoes USA’s new campaign video, says Ted Kreis, Northern Plains Potato Growers marketing and communications director.

The video promotes potatoes as a performance food for active people, from casual recreationalists to highly motivated and well-trained athletes.

Potatoes USA’s research has shown that potatoes are rich in complex carbohydrates and potassium, two nutrients proven to improve athletic performance, Kreis says.

Here’s the video’s script:

"Determined and driven within
Athletes deserve a fuel that works as hard as they do.

A real food
That drives real performance.

For everyone striving to be their best,
For everyday athletes,
To the athletic elite,
It's time to reevaluate
The food we use to fuel us.

So the question is:
What is she eating?
What is he eating?
What are they eating?
What are you eating?

Reintroducing potatoes:
An original performance fuel
With complex carbohydrates
Potassium, fiber and vitamin C
That athletes like you need
To do better than the day before,
And beat your personal best,
Over and over again.

Because a better you
Starts with better food.

Potatoes.
Real food.
Real performance.

What are you eating?"

Check out the video below.

See if you cheer, too.
